You speak English, your partner reads your words in Spanish while you're still talking, and their answer reaches you in English. You send a link on WhatsApp, they tap it and accept, and they never install an app or create an account. Any pair of 60 languages works the same way.

What you get, and what you don't
You hear your partner's real voice, with their laugh and their tone, and read what they say as a caption in your language. Nobody talks over them: the translation is text on the screen, never a synthetic voice.
Accuracy varies with the audio, the accent and the context. Speaking clearly helps, and anything important is there in writing when you hang up: both of you keep the transcript in both languages.

An hour a day adds up to about 30 hours a month. The free plan is there so the two of you can try it together.
For talking every day, each paid plan comes with its own hours: Basic (10 h a month for US$16.90) and Pro (30 h a month for US$34.90).
Hours are counted for a call between two people. With more people or more languages on the same call, they go faster.
When the free call ends, keep talking
Free calls have a time limit, and good conversations run over. When a call hits it, or the month's hours run out, you can subscribe right there and go back into the same call within 30 minutes.
Your partner doesn't need a new link. If they keep the page open, the call brings them back on its own.
Bring the family in
Meeting the in-laws goes better when everyone follows along. On Basic and Pro, more people join the same call and each one reads the captions in their own language: your partner's mom reads you in Spanish, and you read her in English.

digfone is for talking with people you already know. It doesn't introduce anyone.
One rule we share with everyone: never send money to someone you only know from the internet.

Privacy
Audio and video travel encrypted from one browser to the other and never pass through our servers. When two networks can't connect directly, they go through a third-party relay that forwards the encrypted packets and can't open them. To produce the captions, each browser sends its own audio to a specialised speech recognition service. What can be stored, if your plan keeps history, is the text of the conversation, and there is a switch to turn that off: with "Keep the text of my conversations" off, the text of the calls you create is never sent to our servers, and you give up history and the summary.

- How can couples who speak different languages talk on video?
- With a video call that translates while you talk. In digfone you pick both languages and send a link, and each of you reads the other in your own language while hearing their real voice.
- Is there an app to talk to my partner's family in another language?
- digfone runs in the browser, so nobody installs an app. On Basic and Pro, more of the family can join the same call, each person reading the captions in their own language.
- Does my partner need to download anything or make an account?
- No. They tap the link, accept and they're in. Only the person who starts the call needs an account.
- Does it work inside WhatsApp?
- Yes. The link opens in the browser WhatsApp already has, without leaving the chat. It opens from WeChat too. On some phones WeChat does not release the camera, and the call carries on as audio, with captions. If the microphone does not work either, the page shows how to open the same link in your phone's browser.
- Is the translation spoken out loud?
- No. You hear your partner's own voice and read the translation as a caption.
- How accurate is the translation?
- It varies with audio quality, accent and context. Speaking clearly helps, and anything important is in the transcript at the end.
- Is the free plan enough to talk every day?
- The free plan gives you 2 h of one-to-one conversation a month, with calls of up to 15 minutes, so you can try it together. An hour a day comes to about 30 hours a month. For talking every day, the paid plans are Basic (10 h a month for US$16.90) and Pro (30 h a month for US$34.90).
- What happens when a free call runs out of time?

- Does it work for a long distance relationship in another country?
- Yes. The call runs over the internet, not your phone line, so there is no phone number to share and no international calling rate. Your partner only needs the link.
